Ease: Value added to the base to make a looser or looser garment.
Bias: direction of fabric forming an angle of 45° with respect to the straight grain.
Biaser: inclined.
Bolduc: Bias tape used to indicate plumb lines on the mannequin (middle front, waist, hips, etc.)
Edged: bias tape straddling an edge of a garment.
Seam or seam value: value added to the pattern parallel to the edges allowing the pieces to be sewn.
Notch: marking used to facilitate the assembly operation placed perpendicular to the edge of the pattern.
Croisure: added value for making a button band.
Straight Grain : fabric direction parallel to the selvedge.
Gap: Added value either by cutting; either by pivoting, or by working by transparency.
Widening: ease of adding according to the volume of the clothes.
Enforme: Interior finish; it is the exact imprint of the edge of the patronage.
Equidistance: Two curves are equidistant when they are separated by the same distance over all of their lengths.
Curve: curved line.
Galber: Draw a line by bending it.
Middle Straight Grain: The middle of the garment will be parallel to the selvedge.
Middle Straight Thread at the fold: Fits on a pattern piece made in half, without seam in the middle. we will place the middle of the piece on the straight grain fold of the fabric.
Point of agreement: Useful line for assembly, to be indicated perpendicular to the edge of the pattern.
Parallel: 2 parallel lines are lines that never meet.
Perpendicular: 2 straight lines forming a right angle (90°), at their intersection.
Raise: Reproduce on another sheet of paper, using a punch, the desired part following its exact contours.
Support: Excess of one piece over another, to be sewn together, without puckering.
Symmetrical: Position of 2 identical parts, arranged in the same way with respect to an axis.
